• Our client asked us to develop a scheme that felt contemporary and minimal, but also sympathetic to the traditional Victorian features and muted, textural interior design of their Jordanhill home.

Working closely together, we proposed a material palette of white oak cabinetry, fluted glazing, sage green ceramic tiles, cast stone worktops, and limewash finish walls. Replacing a 30-year-old kitchen, the layout was altered to remove an awkward breakfast bar, making room for a small central table and chairs, with the new design instead running the perimeter of three walls.

A large oak and glass display cabinet forms a key feature of the room, providing ample storage for the client’s enviable collection of crockery and glassware, without reducing light flow from the small side window. Below, a set of three 1200mm wide drawers provide all the necessary storage for cutlery, pots, and pans. A smaller cabinet in the same style is situated on a facing wall, creating a designated area for making tea and coffee.

  • All elements of the build - carcasses, doors, panels and joinery - were made from a mix of the highest grade veneer and solid timber, subtly lightened with a 5% white wood stain.

The client wanted a worktop that was durable, but felt more natural than the composite options they had looked at previously. We collaborated with stonemason Charles Myatt to create four bespoke concrete slabs in a warm beige tone, selected from six samples.

Additionally, we specified a bold, practical 3-bowl Villeroy and Boch butler’s sink and a striking 90cm wide Bertazonni range. Other appliances from Miele and Bosch were seamlessly integrated behind oak doors to maintain a cohesive and elegant look.

Finally, Ralph Blair Parquet completed the space with real oak parquet flooring, accented by a stained black kick plate for contrast. Fluted end panels, blackened brass handles, lighting by Corston, a tall column radiator, and matching oak window frame and pulley bars all add subtle details that bring the scheme together.
